and therein lies the trouble, marc. you just don't know. someone could mean it in a jocular way but if the listener is wounded at the moment it doesn't achieve the desired effect.

Just like with the statement "I'll never make it back", it creates a kind of ego driven self-fulfillment. "I" won't come back. "I" am stupid. And what happened to my Creator in all of that?

For my own part, I can't say if I'll ever make it back, but I sure hope I don't have to find out. And I may not be too smart, but I'm smart enough to work for that.

I guess I read it a certain way in conjunction with the "Dumbest Things I've Heard in Meetings." One's affectionate, one, not so much.

Having a heathy relationship with yoursef is so much more rewarding than having a relationship with someone else Chris. All the time and energy you put into that, blah, blah, blah, your own crap is so much more rewarding. Can you tell I'm feeling a bit hostile toward relationsahips outside ones self? Changing your sheets and hopping into that crisp clean bed, my god is there anything better than that!!!! To me that is like heaven on earth with a 400 count thread sheet!!!! (A bit lonely sometimes, but rewarding non the less.) So I'll tell you what, you have enough. You have exactly what you need for you right now. You have a life within your walls. So keep it simple, I won't say "stupid". Simplisity is a good thing! Or as Garth would say, stupid is as stupid does, or something like that!
"
In my dailey affirmations for "acco" I read, "I know where I'm going and I put my energy to good use. I focus my attention on what needs to be done now, and I do it well, rather than indulging in a varity of activities and doing nothing well.
Balance and self discpline are the key words today.

The KISS principle (acronym for "Keep It Simple, Stupid") states that design simplicity should be a key goal and unnecessary complexity avoided. It serves as a useful principle in a wide array of disciplines, such as software development, animation, journalism, photography, engineering, and strategic planning. Common variants of the acronym include: "Keep It Sweet & Simple", and "Keep It Short & Simple".

Ok, I'm laughing out loud. Yes, you can have keep it simple, studly -- but only if you do my dishes, take out my trash and do my laundry!

Er, call me crazy, but I could have sworn it was just "Keep it Simple." Ain't no reason to add the "stupid," any more that it is to qualify emotional statments as "dumb." When I hear "if I go out, I'll never come back" what I hear is someone trying to create a boundary, to warn himself that the stakes are very high, that to pick up could mean his life. I think it's a far healthier observation than the one is which someone rationalizes picking up by saying "I can always get sober again." That might be true, but it's far dumber, because it treats a very serious disease cavalierly.

LOL!!
yep, I like Keep It Simple, Stud. Don't know how well that would work for me. Oh, I know: Keep It Simple Sister. Yep, that works.

I like your list. People maintain their lives every day. Wash dishes, do laundry, make the bed.

But wait! Even fairly successful people don't always keep up with that stuff. I almost never make my bed. I figure Why bother? I'm just going to get in it again. I'll make it when I wash the sheets, but rarely any other time. As I've mentioned before, I'm not always good about keeping my dishes or laundry house cleaning in good order. But overall I'm ok.

And you have done a lot today. Hang on to that.
